Showa Onsen
Showa Onsen
Smaller than average dirtier than average, but the water was clean enough. Cold water bath was nice, but it smelled like the basement of your uncle’s house in the Ozarks. Outside there is a small, one person rock lined tub. It is heavily chlorinated but enjoyable. In the changing room there is a long-abandoned tabletop style video game with the Sega Game Gear classic, Columns. Interesting entryway you where go down a short alleyway to get to the entrance. I should have visited this sento years ago as when I first came to Japan in 2005-2006, I was passing through JR Amagasaki often. This was before having a smartphone with Google Maps. Before then I relied on sento guide magazines and enthusiast websites to find the location of sento in an area. I never had the reason to explore the area north of the station and missed out on this one. Now I am happy to know and have visited both Showa-yu and Heiwa-yu further north as they both offer a great bath close to this major train station.
