Takara no Yu
Takara no Yu
Takara no Yu is the only bathing complex of it's size in the area. It's a popular spot, not only for it's fabulous hot spring, but for the well designed baths that contain that water. Outside the dominating feature is a large rock lined bath that abuts the dividing wall between the men's and women's sides. The lower half of this long bath is shallow normal water. The upper half is filled with the hot spring water at two different temperatures. The water is rich with minerals and has covered the stones with a thick brownish residue. Be careful with any white towels that come in contact with this water as it will stain them. Due to the popularity of the hot spring water here the baths have been remodeled three times since I first came to this super sento. The first remodel expanded the hot spring further into the main bath mentioned above and the second remodel added a new hot spring bath in the far corner of the outdoor area.
Be forewarned that this is mostly an outside affair with only one large bath inside. If you are going on a rainy day get ready for being outside in that rain. I find it relaxing being in the bath with the rain falling around me, but I can understand if people might not like it.
There is also a fun looking little outdoor yatai style bar restaurant in the parking lot area here. I've yet to eat there but it looks like great fun on a warm evening.
