One of the fun things about this hobby is that you will never know what you are going to find. Even with websites, Google reviews and Nifty Onsen, what the place will be like is up to chance. Walking 20 minutes in the dark and blowing snow from the station to this supersento I was wondering if it was going to be worth it. Yea, a few weeks ago I looked up this place and marked it on my map, but now I cannot remember if it had a hot spring or not. Was this walk going to be worth it?
Well, it was worth the walk! It took a while to realize it, however. Actually, I was a bit scared at first. The massive amount of manner posters, including what I later figured out was a manner poem contest gave me a worry. Places that put up this many manner posters must have a reason for putting up all those posters. What I later realized is that in the summer this is the hot spring next to the beach, so it probably gets pretty crowded. So, the water… it was amazing. The main indoor spring water bath told me that. Thankfully at 42~43˚C on the cold winter night I visited. But that was not all! Outside in the blustery costal weather with melting snow blowing across the tubs was a straight well water tub. It was cooler at 39˚C and it was amazing. Half opaque. The spring analysis sign said this was a high osmotic pressure bath which is also a rarity. Your hand gets hazy at the bottom of the tub and the smell was of moss and wood. This will go into my top 10 of good smelling hot springs (a ranking I need to invent for the site! Haha!)
