Marugame Pokapoka Onsen
Marugame Pokapoka Onsen
Marugame's version of the Pokapoka Onsen is much, much different than the one in Kobe. This one is more like a large sento. Pastel tiles provide the decoration in the two level, two rotenburo bathing area. It felt somewhat like Karato Onsen. I got a few glances from the older guys there, but nothing rude. This bath is off the map for tourists and I don't think there are many people like me in the area. The website says there is a hot spring and the lower rotenburo had a hot spring feel, but there were no signs for it anywhere. Great selection of jets also. Recommended if you are in the area and can get to it. Leaving the changing room I wanted to check with the girl working the front if there was a natural hot spring bath here. Coming out of the noren in front of me was a fully nude grandpa just standing there. I took a few seconds to realize what was going on. The girl was trying to compel him to go back into the changing room as was another staff. I tried to help for a second but figured that I should just leave. People coming to Japan always are afraid of being naked in front of everyone. It doesn't matter because everyone else is naked... the only time it's really--and I mean REALLY--noticable is when there's one naked person in a room full of clothed people.
