Takara Onsen
Takara Onsen
I'm from Tucson, Arizona. Now, Tucson is not a city with a lot of water or places to take a bath. It's a hot and dry desert city. In some of the older buildings with their stucco walls, the air is amazingly fresh and cool. This sento, with its high ceilings, plastered walls, and strong fan, gave me the same feeling as those grand old buildings in Tucson. Hence, I will make the unusual claim that Takara-onsen is the most Tucson feeling of any sento I've visited. The tile work on the inside only helps enhance that feeling.
Here, the baths are simple: deep, shallow, and a bubbling circular bath built into the shallow one. Plus, there's a cold-water bath in a cave-like alcove. All the baths here are filled with lovely well water with a special feeling. As a bonus, there's also a 3-person steam sauna. It's a bit cooler than my preferred temperature, but it was very inviting.
Takara Onsen is also a member of the retro sento postcard club. Like the rest, these are some of the best sento to visit in Kansai. This one is well-rounded with high scores for the aesthetics, refreshing baths, and friendly owners.
100% highly recommended. You should go out of your way to visit this beautiful sento.
