*Temporary Closure* Kasagi Ikoi no Yakata
January 2020 Update: The bathhouse is closed indefinitely until further notice.
Rebuilt in August of 2015 this is an amazing day use hot spring. Really it surprised me how great the spring here was. So smooth and soft on the skin, Kasagi goes into my secret onsen list. It is just that far away from anyplace to make it a fun day trip. There is a nearby camping area on the river that looks like it is always booked full. When I returned home from here the train was packed full with hikers so there must be a lot of hiking in the area. I just liked exploring the little town. Back to the baths there are a good selection of sizes. The second largest bath has ramp entrance that I assume is for barrier free access but fun to walk down also. Small but refreshing rotenburo is filled with spring water but it is also an herbal bath. The time I went hojicha (a type of roasted tea) was put in the water and I loved it—especially that tea smell. Kasagi is part of the rural Kyoto tea growing region and has just a wonderful feel to it. Coming out here for the bath and just getting away from the city is highly recommended.
