Shin [新] means new but this new bath was opened in 1927. It looks like it would have back then. One small deepish bath is along the dividing wall and a few bathing stations ring it on the outside wall. The changing area and bathing area are both quite small. Like all the other baths in Shimosuwa, it is hot. As there are no other baths but the main one, there is no relief for those who cannot take the heat. There is a small water faucet and cup to drink some municipal water to cool off a bit but that is it. Very friendly staff in working the front entrance. Of the 3 places in the Shimosuwa Onsen three bath route this one was the smallest and the quality of the water seemed to be a bit lower. That said it was the 4th super-hot bath I took in 5 hours so my skin might have been a bit numbed by then. Haha! Of the 3 places, however, this was the most aesthetically pleasing.
