Classic hot spring in a hot spring village somewhat hidden down an alleyway. Beautiful wood and glass in the entrance from the era with some newer remolding done on top. The spring is presented in a single oval shaped bath lined with small tiles with washing stations on either side. The spring is hot but not too hot to be uncomfortable. Water is added to cool the bath. Inside the bath the heat feel is the most noticeable as is a very slight sulphur smell. The skin feel is most noticeable once you get out and dry off making you extremely soft. Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in older sento.
This was the first bath I took in Shimosuwa but I still think this was the best one. It is also the closest to the station. If you only have time for one, skip doing the route and just come here. When you come in make sure to look on the other side of the drink vending machine for the entrance ticket vending machine. You do not give cash to the attendant here.
