Located 15 minutes away by bus from the nearest train station, Kamokimi no Sato is deep in rural Nara prefecture. The building and surrounding garden has a modern, bare concrete design that, although somewhat of a juxtaposition, fits within its landscape well. The stone and other materials used in the construction of the baths is pleasing for the eyes and body too. A great deal of attention was paid to the design of the bathing area and this is accented by the water which is quite refreshing. The hot spring water has a slight brown tint to it and leaves the skin feeling quite good. Another key point of this supersento is the well designed waterfall bath which is placed in a shallow pool at the back of the outdoor area. These baths are popular but hard to design into the bath area so they are rarely perfect. The height, double spigots, and low wall to hold on to makes it one of the most refreshing waterfall baths I’ve been in. Sadly the design that was lavished upon the bathing area, exterior and garden, but the rest of the building has a very hollow unused feeling. Not necessarily worth the trip if going to this supersento is your only reason for heading to this corner of Nara prefecture, if you happen to be in the area, however, I definitely recommend it.
