Myōgaya

Myōgaya

I called up and asked if they were still doing day use baths and they said they were. Of all the ryokans that are walkable from the station, Myogaya offers day use till 5pm unlike the others that close off for guests only around 4pm. (Note: there are some very nice-looking day use bathing facilities which are a bit further and would require a car, taxi ride, or the time to make the walk.) Entering the ryokan and paying the grandmother told me to walk all the way to the top. She was not wrong, keep on going up the creaky old stairs. This is one of those old ryokans that were built like a maze. This also has is a classic ryokan bath with a single tub. There were many windows but there was not much to see other than the rooftops of the buildings next to me. The bath is lined with a very old piece of wood which gave it a welcoming feel. Signs at the entrance warn you that the spring water is on the warmer side, so take a long bath to get properly heated up. The water was somewhat noticeable but nothing amazing. After getting out I enjoyed the tea and sweets in the restaurant which is included in the price.
The Yahiko Shrine down the street is a must visit if you come here.
