Kumeda Bath Center

Kumeda Bath Center

I love the name of this sento. It's the bath center, but it could also be a bus center? I know of two sento with this nomenclature in Kansai, so I wonder if it was a more popular name back in the '80s.

Not too far from Kumeda station, this is the only option in an area where options begin to get sparse. I ventured to this sento on my way out of the mountain on a long hike. Rather than take the bus into the town through the foothills, I just did the whole walk to the station, stopping off here before getting on the train.

This is a very open and airy place. It seems that it could fit many more people than the few guys there during my visit. I even had the entire bath to myself for a few minutes. The baths were adequate but a bit cooler than average, I felt. The mosaic-tiled floors were nice on the feet, while the various other tiles and glass brick, some colored, on the upper half of the dividing wall was nice on the eyes. That said, some of the fixtures were broken, and the entire place could use a deep clean and capital investment if it is going to stay around much longer. Good if you are in the location but not worth heading out of your way to visit.

Nearby are some interesting things to see. The Kumedadera temple complex was quite beautiful. There is also a drained lake with a lovely park surrounding it. I am sure the lake would look better with water in it. Not sure why it was drained. https://www.city.kishiwada.osaka.jp/soshiki/70/kumedaikesetsumeiban.html
