Deshiro Onsen
Deshiro Onsen
You cannot judge a sento by its front or trust the Google Maps reviews. The somewhat depressing exterior of this sento betrays a bright and cheerful interior. I expected this sento to be dark and musky, but instead, it was well-maintained and clean. The biggest surprise was a large window above the sauna along the rear wall. It lets light in and has a slight view of the sky.
Additionally, some beautiful blooming plants are kept on top of the sauna and visible from the window, giving a sense of freshness to the room. This is a smaller, older-looking sento, but most facilities are working. The dry sauna is free and seats about 3 people. There are separate hot and cold showers near the entrance to the sauna. If the hot shower doesn't stop automatically, you might need to pull on the button a little. The single-person cold water bath was perfect. Signs ask you to wash your sweat off with the showers instead of rinsing the bathwater from the cold bath. The other baths are hotter than usual, and the jets are strong. I also enjoyed the powerful utase in the back corner.
The shower near the entrance (men's side) seems broken.
Some of the reviews on Google say the grandmother working the bandai is rude, but I didn't see her on my visit. I can say that the locals here all seem to know each other, and it helped make a friendly atmosphere here.
Oh, and the spare toilet roll holder thing is pretty funny.
