Sugatani
¥1000 might seem expensive, but once you get in the bath you'll know it was worth it. I went here after going to Takarabune Onsen and again I got a rental bike from the station. The ride this time was a bit tougher due to the afternoon breeze and slight incline. The hot spring is located back in a small valley behind some rice fields. Dense forest begins once the arable land expires. With not much else in the area, besides a new Family Mart down the road a kilometre or so, this has to be a quality spring. A old, all handwritten, spring information sheet hangs in the changing room. It is dated Showa 41 (1966). I think the history of this spring is much longer however. The spring is orange-brown and has a strong sense of uniqueness. There is no mistake by coming out this far for this spring. Next time I might just have to spend the night. Note: If you go a weekend or holiday, people staying overnight are given preference after 3pm. Call ahead to make a reservation.
