Takarabune

Takarabune

Due to the limited day use hours for this spring I left early planning on getting to the spring around 10am exactly. I expected to have to walk the 3km from the station to the hotspring on the shores of Lake Biwa, but there was a bicycle rental at the station and I took advantage of that. Getting to the location was a fun bike ride. A good majority of that ride was along the shores of the lake on a bike path. Perfect. Getting to the hotspring that early meant I had the whole place to myself which is good because the baths are extremely small. I washed off at the indoor bath. Also there are no showers in the rotenburo area. The indoor tub was one of those old concrete ones that just have the best handmade feel to them. I soaked there for a while, put my clothes back on and went to the rotenburo. The two areas are not connected which makes changing baths a bit difficult. The rotenburo was awesome. No view other than up, but you are in a little walled off garden. It couldn't be any better. The spring is a cold one that's heated and has a very fresh feeling to it. Very much worth getting out to Takashima for this gem.
